Homework
Educational research has indicated that reading with your child is one of the most important activities you can engage in to increase your child's literacy abilities. Did you know that Below is an explanation of the typical homework you will see this year in Kindergarten.
Reading Homework:
The mandatory nightly homework for Kindergarten students consists of two Reading components- reading to/ with your child + your child visiting the RAZ-KIDS website to complete at home reading & comprehension assignments.
Please read with your child at least 15 minutes each night for a total of 60 minutes or more each week. Use the monthly comprehension focus information link below to help guide your reading. Fill out the Reading Rocket form as you complete books and have your child return the Reading Rockets form when 10 books have been read. Your child will get to move his/her rocket each time they turn in a complete reading list! Your child's personal RAZ-KIDS account holds loads of leveled books that your child can read though and answer comprehension about. Each correct answer earns points to be used in a virtual store where your child can purchase items to decorate his/ her digital rocket. It's a very fun, educational and super-interactive program that has helped many young learners become more fluent & confident readers.

Math: Optional
Students may complete the Home Links activities listed below. Home Links are typically not paper and pencil tasks, but more things the child DOES at home. Most objects needed for the lessons will be objects you already have around the house. For example, students will count pennies, steps or the number of doors you have in your house or apartment. Our new Common Core State Standards for California for Kindergarten have a heavy focus on counting and number recognition & representation with automaticity. To help reinforce these skills, you can provide your child opportunities to count any variety of objects, to sort them in different ways, to represent their numbers in a conventional manner (1, 2, 3...), but also abstractly as tally marks and in pictures,
