Richmond Street School Birthday Policy:
Birthdays are very special in Kindergarten! We will be celebrating each child’s birthday on the school day or closest to the date. After we sing “Happy Birthday” to your child, he/she will be King or Queen for the day. He/ she will have a special birthday crown to wear and get to be the day’s special helper.
Some years ago, the district policy regarding birthday celebrations changed. In order to promote nutrition and a healthy lifestyle, parents will no longer be able to provide sweet treats at school for their child's birthday. If you still want to provide something for the class to enjoy as a birthday treat, you may donate a Birthday Book to the class. This is a wonderful way of exposing children to the beauty of literature while at the same time building our classroom library. Here’s how it works: on your child’s birthday, he/she may bring in a book to give to the class. Inside the cover, you can write a brief dedication and we will read the birthday book as part of the birthday celebration.
Please remember that you are not obligated to do this. You may find, though, that the concept of a child sharing his/her birthday by being a giver rather than a receiver is a good one for the development of an individual.
